“KHATLON LIVELIHOODS SUPPORT PROJECT”

 

The Grant Agreement on implementation of the “Khatlon Livelihoods Support Project” between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) was signed on January 27, 2009, and amendments and changes to given Agreement were entered on July 24, 2013.
In accordance with Tajik Government Decree #496 dated November 2, 2013, implementation of the KLSP was assigned to the State Enterprise “Project Management Unit “Livestock and Pasture Development”.

Project targeted districts

Muminobod and Shamsiddin Shohin districts of Khatlon region

Project implementation period:
- Project effectiveness date: April 17, 2009;
- Project completion date: June 30, 2015.

Objectives:
The Project’s main objective is to contribute to the reduction of poverty in Muminobod and Shamsiddin Shohin districts of Khatlon region as well as to thesustainable development of land resources, development of rural productive infrastructure, enhancement of agricultural sector efficiency and increase incomes of households.

Project components
Component 1 – Institutional support
Under implementation of given component Project support has been provided to 82 Village Organizations in Muminobod and Shamsiddin Shohin districts.

Organization of Village Organization(VO) activities in accordance with the conditions of Project implementation:
- Improvement of technical servicesconditions, including agricultural machinery;
- Improvement the conditions on supply of drinking water in Project targeted districts;
- Construction and rehabilitation of electricity supply lines in Project targeted districts;
- Strengthening and enhancement the use of existing resources, theresponsibility of each VO members, cooperation with PMU, local authorities and Community

Facilitators.
Component 2 - Enhancement of Agricultural Productivity and Profitability
Sub-component On-Farm Technology Validation and Demonstration

Within the given sub-component implementation it is planned to undertake the following activities:
Ø Establishment of demonstration plots;
Ø Assistance in development of agricultural sector;
Ø Involvement of scientists and highly qualified sphere specialists;
Ø Organization of training and activities on practical works.
Sub-component - Community Development Fund

Being one of the main sub-components the Community Development Fund identifies the indicators on Project implementation.
Financed/invested activities:
- Provision of agricultural machinery and equipment
- Provision of agricultural products processing equipment;
- Construction of drinking water supply lines for population and livestock;
Construction and rehabilitation of bridges, cattle tracks, and partial rehabilitation of villages’ internal roads;
- Construction and rehabilitation of electricity power supply lines.
